Recess Recs: Asian American Cultural Center’s Summer Camps

If your kid’s ideal summer includes messy art projects, new best friends, stories from around the world, and maybe even a little Tai Chi, the Asian American Cultural Center’s Summer Camp might just be your new summer staple.

This beloved Austin program invites children ages 5–12 to spend their summer diving into a vibrant mix of hands-on activities rooted in cultural traditions from across Asia and beyond. It’s the kind of camp that sparks creativity, builds confidence, and leaves your child buzzing with new skills and stories to share.

Where Culture Meets Camp Magic

This isn’t just about keeping kids busy—this is about helping them grow in meaningful ways. Each week, campers explore a new blend of interactive experiences designed to celebrate diversity and creativity while having so much fun along the way.

Expect a rotating lineup of:

🎨 Arts & Crafts – Think lantern-making, origami, painting, and more.
🎭 Theater & Performance – Skits, movement games, and storytelling bring imagination to life.
🎶 Music & Rhythm – Songs, percussion, and dance from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
🍳 Hands-On Cooking – Safe, age-appropriate recipes that introduce kids to new flavors and traditions.
🧘‍♂️ Tai Chi & Movement – A calm and focused way to start the day (bonus: helps with transitions and energy regulation).
📜 Calligraphy & Language Exploration – Kids try their hand at brush calligraphy and explore different writing systems.
🎲 Games & Group Play – Classic games with a cultural twist, perfect for teamwork and giggles.

Each activity is led by experienced staff who create a welcoming, inclusive environment where kids feel free to be curious, expressive, and themselves.

Good to Know

The camp runs weekly all summer long, so you can sign up for just one week—or let your child spend the whole summer immersed in creative learning. With themes and activities rotating week to week, no two sessions are the same.

Snacks are provided, but don’t forget to pack a lunch, comfy clothes, and a big water bottle—your little camper will be moving, making, and laughing all day long.

Spots are limited and tend to fill quickly, especially in mid-summer weeks. If this camp sounds like a fit for your family, we recommend registering early to lock in your dates.
